26,000 books and 1,300 posters for schools in the region of Borgou

Thanks to Plantyn Publishing House, Aedis Publishing House and Materialise!

In March 2021, our Foundation was able to deliver no less than 26,000 books and 1,300 educational posters to the 49 primary and 10 secondary schools with which it cooperates in the Borgou department

Uitgeverij Plantijn

The publishing house Plantyn won the crown with a donation of 25,000 books for primary and secondary schools. The books were no longer adapted to the curricula in Belgium, but were still perfectly usable to support education in Benin.

Uitgeverij Aedis

The French publisher Aedis made a serious commercial effort so that we could buy 1,300 educational posters at a very reduced price.

Materialise

Finally, Materialise completed the donation with 312 books by Beninese authors for the secondary schools.

On Tuesday 23 March 2021, our Foundation organised the distribution of the books. The head of education of the department of Borgou, the mayors of the communes of N’Dali, Parakou and Tchaurou where the schools are located and many directors were represented or even present. The schools were very satisfied. With the donated materials, they can start working immediately.

Supporting the schools remains one of our main focuses. We are building wells and sanitation facilities and setting up vegetable gardens. And we continue to invest in educational materials. With classrooms averaging 50-60 students and little or no equipment, except for a large blackboard at the front of the classroom, the needs are great.

Daabaaru TV made a report on the handover. Have a look at it. Our director Marcienne Houenou also speaks.

Some pictures of the handing over of the books with the first impressions of the primary school directors who receive them.

The educational posters are already in use. A primary school headmaster testifies.
