BENEFIT EVENING – A Heartwarming Success in Limburg

Does it still make sense, in these turbulent geopolitical times, to organize a benefit evening for a project in distant Benin? The answer is yes—an emphatic yes.

This was demonstrated by the wonderful evening we organized on March 19 at the Cegeka Arena of KRC Genk. For the first time, the Hubi & Vinciane Foundation moved away from its familiar base in Leuven to beautiful Limburg, and the people of Limburg truly lived up to their warm reputation. The venue was filled to the last seat with long-time supporters as well as a new audience that strongly supports the Foundation.

An evening full of inspiration and music

Mayor Wim Dries delivered a warm welcome speech and remained engaged throughout the entire evening. The program succesfully combined substance and culture:

  • A panel with humor: Our panel, expertly and dynamically moderated by Katheen Cools, featuring Jan Peumans, Wim De Vilder, and Herman Van Rompuy, offered both depth and lighthearted moments. The audience enjoyed many bursts of laughter thanks to their lively interactions.
  • African Jazz: The Beninese band led by Angelo Moustapha—recently named Africa’s best drummer—created an unforgettable atmosphere. Their jazzy African sounds brought the spirit of Benin to Genk.
  • Networking: The evening concluded in style with drinks and light bites, where guests continued engaging in inspiring conversations.

Concrete impact of Hubi &nd Vinciane: Building the future

The proceeds from the evening are very encouraging: over €22,000. This amount will be fully dedicated to developing a second maternity center at the hospital in Boko.

The need is significant: birth rates are rising, and the current number of beds is simply insufficient. As in Europe, construction costs in Benin have increased sharply. Additional funding is still needed to complete this project. Thanks to your presence and support, we have nevertheless taken another important step forward.

  • Fighting hunger: our malnutrition program has been highly succesful, reducing malnutrition rates from 12% tot just 1%.

A word of thanks

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our main sponsor Vandemoortele, the voluntary commitment of our panelists and musicians, and of course the contagious energy of the large audience.

Thank you for your support. We hope to see you all again next year!
