International Education Day

The Foundation celebrates International Education Day with the promotion of a healthy and balanced diet

The whole world celebrated International Education Day on Friday, 24 January 2020. This day wants to highlight all parties involved in education and to promote education to reduce illiteracy, which still affects many developing countries. The Foundation’s commitment to stand up for the right to schooling should be seen in the same context.

This commitment is reflected in various activities aimed at facilitating access to education for all. For example, on the occasion of the International Education Day, the Foundation organised a course on nutritional education and a cooking demonstration to promote healthy and balanced school meals for the girls who are nutrition ambassadors in primary and secondary schools.

During the course, the preparation of three dishes was proposed, namely a vegetable and fruit salad enriched with small fish, banana fritters and dough based on banana flour accompanied by moringa sauce. All fares shown during this session were made with local products. The aim was to bring the importance of a healthy and balanced diet to the attention of students and pupils, who will form the generation of tomorrow. It was also an excellent opportunity to show the students that a wide range of dishes can be prepared with local products.

Moreover, these cooking demonstrations were also meant to show a cooking method that optimises the nutritional value of the dishes as much as possible. Indeed, many vitamins and mineral salts are lost due to the usual cooking methods, because the cooking temperature, the cooking time or the amount of cooking water is poorly regulated.

The event was attended by some 35 participants, including 24 girls and four women who are all nutrition ambassadors, three coaches and four animators. The session ended with tasting the prepared dishes. The Foundation was thanked for celebrating this day under the theme of food education.

Long live nutrition education, long live the girl ambassadors, long live the Foundation in its fight against malnutrition.
