The answer is <strong>yes - an emphatic yes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This was demonstrated by the wonderful evening we organized on March 19 at the Cegeka Arena of KRC Genk. For the first time, the Hubi &amp; Vinciane Foundation moved away from its familiar base in Leuven to beautiful Limburg, and the people of Limburg truly lived up to their warm reputation. The venue was filled to the last seat with long-time supporters as well as a new audience that strongly supports the Foundation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An evening full of inspiration and music<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Mayor Wim Dries<\/strong> delivered a warm welcome speech and remained engaged throughout the entire evening. The audience enjoyed many bursts of laughter thanks to their lively interactions.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>African Jazz<\/strong>: The Beninese band led by <strong>Angelo Moustapha<\/strong> - recently named Africa\u2019s best drummer - created an unforgettable atmosphere. Their jazzy African sounds brought the spirit of Benin to Genk.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li><strong>Networking<\/strong>: The evening concluded in style with drinks and light bites, where guests continued engaging in inspiring conversations.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":35711,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000\/01\/20260319_Inspiratieavond_Angelo_1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35711\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concrete impact of Hubi &amp;nd Vinciane: Building the future<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The proceeds from the evening are very encouraging: over 22,000 euros. This amount will be fully dedicated to developing a second maternity center at the hospital in Boko.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The need is significant: birth rates are rising, and the current number of beds is simply insufficient. As in Europe, construction costs in Benin have increased sharply. Additional funding is still needed to complete this project. The hospital\u2019s reputation attracts dozens of mothers every day for prenatal follow-up and specialised support for high-risk deliveries. But with an average of 45 patients per day across only 22 beds, it was becoming increasingly challenging to accommodate everyone with dignity. Too often, patients ended up on mattresses in the corridors or even outside.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Fortunately, this will soon change. With the construction of a new, spacious maternity ward, capacity will increase to <strong>45 beds<\/strong>, supplemented by <strong>12 neonatology beds<\/strong> and <strong>two operating theatres<\/strong>. This represents a huge step forward in terms of quality, comfort and safety. The maternity ward in Boko is thus evolving into a vital reference centre \u2013 one of the largest in all of Benin.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Preparatory works began in February 2025; since July, the site has been buzzing with activity. While one team worked on the masonry, another produced earth bricks and anchors on-site. The result is impressive: all masonry work has been completed, and the roof will be installed before the end of December. <strong>The opening is scheduled for the end of 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>On the financial side as well, many shoulders are supporting this project. The hospital is covering 40% of the costs. Thanks to the participants of the Corrida and the support of the Province of West Flanders, our Foundation can also contribute 40%. The project is being implemented in the municipalities of Djougou (Donga) and N\u2019Dali (Borgou) and aims to sustainably strengthen the local agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>ACMA3 refers to the third phase of the <em>Approche Communale au March\u00e9 Agricole<\/em> (Communal Approach to Agricultural Markets), a program funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Benin.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":35529,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026_Q1_Pluimveehouderij_ACMA3_1200_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35529\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Women as Drivers of Change<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As part of the project, we established several training centres, with a strong focus on women. They play a key role in local agriculture and the rural economy.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Through these trainings, women are expanding their skills, improving production, and increasing their incomes. At the same time, they contribute to healthier nutrition within their communities. A portion of the eggs produced is supplied directly to school cafeterias.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":35526,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026_Q1_Pluimveehouderij_ACMA3_1200_08.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35526\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Identifying the Best Farming Methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In addition to training, we are conducting research on different breeding and farming methods to determine which approach works best under local climate conditions.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This ensures that quail farming is not only productive today, but also sustainable and profitable in the long term.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Building on Earlier Successes<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This new initiative builds on previous projects in the Collines and Borgou regions. In those areas, twelve farmers received a total of 180 breeding birds.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Since then, they have passed on new breeding birds to 33 additional farmers in Bemb\u00e8r\u00e8k\u00e8, Tchaourou, Dassa, and Glazou\u00e9. These farmers are now continuing the cycle by distributing breeding birds within their own networks.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Communal Poultry Associations (ACA) closely monitor the process to ensure that all agreements are respected.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Creating a Sustainable Future Together<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Step by step, a sustainable, independent, and community-based business model is taking shape. There, they received appropriate medical follow-up and, when necessary, medication through our Foundation. the garden has received a real boost. We invested in a water well with a solar pump, a water storage tank, and an irrigation system, and we also provided new planting materials. With year-round access to water, the villagers can now plant and harvest fruits and vegetables year-round.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":34384,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025_Q4_Gbetebou_9495_1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34384\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>With our agronomist\u2019s help, the garden is also being used much more efficiently. Land that used to flood every rainy season\u2014and therefore lay fallow - is now used for rice cultivation. He also teaches them how to apply agroecological techniques to increase their yields sustainably.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The residents of Gbetebou built a sturdy fence around the garden themselves to keep animals out. Cooperation within the village is visibly growing: women and men work side by side in the garden. Everyone cultivates their own plot, but the sense of community is stronger than ever. The men take on the heaviest physical tasks\u2014such as preparing the planting beds and weeding - actively supporting the women in their work.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>And it doesn\u2019t stop at the vegetable garden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In the cassava cooperative, villagers also join forces. Thanks to training at the Ariziki Incubation Centre, members learned how to manage a cooperative professionally. By processing cassava into gari and tapioca, the women generate additional income and greater financial stability for their families.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>With part of the profits, the villagers were able to purchase a tricycle, which they use to transport cassava from the fields to the cooperative and to bring the gari and tapioca to nearby markets. This investment now allows them to process and sell more, faster, and more efficiently.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>What does the cooperative still need to continue growing? During four intensive days, our team introduced them to several projects of our Foundation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":34358,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025_Q4_BelgischeBezoekers_01_1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34358\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The trip began with a visit to the new <strong>school garden of the Papan\u00e9 H\u00f4pital primary school<\/strong>. The next step was a tour of the <strong>Saint Martin de Papan\u00e9 Hospital<\/strong>, where various buildings and departments have been established thanks to the Foundation. Hubi worked in this hospital until his accident; a memorial on the site commemorates Hubi &amp; Vinciane. The day concluded with a visit to the <strong>Sokounon training farm in Parakou<\/strong>, an essential partner of the Foundation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>On the second day, the group visited <strong>the village of Gbetebou<\/strong>, where the Foundation is investing in a community vegetable garden and a cassava-processing cooperative. After a short stop at the <strong>headquarters in Parakou<\/strong>, they continued with visits to the <strong>primary schools of Komigu\u00e9a, Bonsi and Kakara<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Teachers, school leaders and pupils welcomed the visitors with open arms and expressed their appreciation for the investments made in drinking-water wells, sanitation, hygiene and teaching materials. The children of Kakara had even prepared a short play. In the evening, the group attended a <strong>horse-dance demonstration by the Batonu riders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The third day began with a visit to the new maternity ward at <strong>Saint Jean de Dieu Hospital in Boko<\/strong>, where the construction progress was clearly visible. The group then visited a rice-processing cooperative and attended a cooking demonstration as part of our efforts to combat malnutrition. The <strong>Ariziki Incubator Centre<\/strong> was also on the programme, as well as an audience with the king of Ganou.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>On the final day, the group took part in the third edition of <strong>the health walk in Parakou<\/strong>, early in the morning, together with hundreds of other participants.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For the Belgian visitors, it was a valuable experience. Especially for those who do not yet have a nearby water well, this combination makes a significant difference. Moreover, sheep manure can be used to enrich the soil and improve crop yields.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:image {\"id\":34311,\"sizeSlug\":\"full\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\"} -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/hubi-vinciane.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2025_Q4_Landbouw_Veeteelt_9181_1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34311\"\/><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>During their information sessions and workshops, our agricultural technicians continuously highlight the importance of this combination. But to give farmers a real opportunity to put this into practice, our Foundation decided a year ago to offer them a concrete boost.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In both 2024 and 2025, we provided eight women with a vegetable garden, four ewes and one ram. The first results are promising: the women are successfully breeding new animals and seeing higher yields in their gardens. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In 2026, we will expand this initiative by giving twenty more sheep to four additional women. The principle remains the same: those who receive sheep will later pass on lambs to other families. This is how a solidary, self-sustaining network gradually takes shape. Our agricultural technicians ensure that the redistribution is carried out fairly and correctly.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We use the same model with chickens. In 2025, we distributed 150 hens and roosters to 30 women, who will, in turn, pass on chicks to other families.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This is exactly what our Foundation stands for: <strong>sharing knowledge, empowering people, and providing an initial material lever to enable sustainable, locally rooted systems to grow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph Thanks to these projects, healthy and varied food is available locally.It also gives women the opportunity to become more autonomous and self-reliant.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"style\":{\"elements\":{\"link\":{\"color\":{\"text\":\"var:preset|color|orange\"}}}},\"textColor\":\"orange\",\"fontSize\":\"medium\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Activities within the domain Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Since the beginning of 2010, agricultural projects have been integrated into our operations. Our agronomists provide structural training in the villages to grow crops, such as grains, tubers, legumes and vegetables, and keep chickens and goats.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>They teach local people - especially women and youth - how to get the most out of their piece of farmland, how to process the harvest into healthy meals, and how to package and sell the surplus.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In agriculture, we support villages with <strong>community vegetable gardens<\/strong>, <strong>families with smaller gardens<\/strong>, and <strong>schools with school gardens<\/strong>. The <strong>banana project<\/strong> is also ongoing. Thanks to the <em>Associations Villageoises d'Epargne et de Cr\u00e9dit (AVEC)<\/em>, women can take out <strong>microfinance <\/strong>and invest in self-employment.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We also cooperate with the <strong>Sokounon training farm<\/strong>, where local farmers can always get technical support and advice from agronomists.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Our Foundation also <strong>drills wells<\/strong>, constructs <strong>water reservoirs<\/strong>, and installs <strong>irrigation systems<\/strong> so that local people can grow crops all year round, even in the dry season.
