We are delighted to introduce him to you.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>Florent, what training did you receive, and what does your mission within the Foundation involve?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I trained as a photojournalist and have a professional degree in audiovisual journalism.<br>I was recruited to make the Foundation more visible. As communications manager, I'm responsible for collecting images, writing texts and producing audiovisual material for all the Foundation's projects and programs, ensuring effective communication through the most appropriate channels. I also oversee the Foundation's internal communications.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>What challenges have you set yourself, and how do you plan to meet them?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>My biggest challenge is to put as many people as possible in touch with the Foundation.<br>With the support of all my colleagues, I want to make communication more effective. It's necessary to be proactive and innovative to achieve our communication objectives and make an impact.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>What do you need to achieve your goals at the Foundation?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I need the trust of my colleagues at the Foundation. Good communication between us is also important. It's also essential to have quality work tools.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>How would you describe the working atmosphere?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>It's my first time working with such courteous, available and pleasant colleagues. My integration went very smoothly. I feel like I'm coming home every time I cross the threshold.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>A final word?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>If the mission of the Hubi &amp; Vinciane Foundation is to realize a dream with Benin, I can add that - without sleeping - I intend to dream with the Foundation in the best possible way. She will specifically lead the project against non-communicable diseases (NCD). And as usual, we introduce you to our new employee through a short interview.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>Can you briefly introduce yourself?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I am Sokouinto Tchoukouna Rahmat, a young woman passionate about nutrition. A passion I developed while studying Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Cotonou.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>Why did you apply to the Foundation? What in particular appealed to you?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Most nutrition projects in Benin focus on childhood malnutrition, which is a good thing. However, we often forget other nutrition-related diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Those diseases are significant causes of death worldwide and especially in developing countries like Benin. With the Foundation's project, I have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of people's diets and lifestyles. And that by setting up preventive and health-promoting activities related to NCDs. Hence my interest in applying to the Foundation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>How did the NCD project kick-off meeting go?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The kick-off meeting of the NCD project took place on June 16, 2022, at the office of our Foundation. The representatives of the municipalities of Parakou and Tchaourou were present. After a welcoming speech by Marcienne Houenou, our director, the representative of the Departmental Director of Health of the Borgou region, opened the meeting. First, my fellow Foundation nutritionist gave a general overview of the NCD project. Then we all discussed how we would define the target groups and refer the sick individuals to the health center to start treatment.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>We also talked about the organization of physical education workshops. We also discussed the problem of establishing vegetable gardens in highly urbanized areas such as Agba-Agba, a district of Parakou, where there is insufficient space. A possible alternative is to create more extensive community vegetable gardens and promote soilless crops such as substrate cultivation or hydroponics.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>After the break, we reviewed the selection criteria for the project and had the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions. Finally, we selected six villages where we will roll out the NCD project: Wanssirou, Baka, and Agba-Agba in Parakou and the villages of Kaki-Koka, Koubou, and T\u00e9pkarou in the municipality of Tchaourou.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>How will you approach your work?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This project is quite a challenge for me. Therefore, I will approach it with many \"s\u00e9rieux\" and motivation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong><em>What priorities have you set for yourself?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I have set myself goals on two levels. First, I want to achieve the purposes of the project by setting up actions and being innovative. Second, I want to be a role model for healthy eating patterns. At 7:30 a.m. we left for Parakou.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Our first stop was at the public primary school of Segourou where we met with the Girl Nutrition Ambassadors (FAN) for the payment of breakfast fees. The same exercise was done in the public primary schools of Koro, Papan\u00e9 Quartier A and B, Papan\u00e9 GAH, Kassouala Quartier and the general education colleges of Papan\u00e9 and Kassouala Centre. At the Papan\u00e9 CEG after the meeting with the FANs, we also conducted an awareness session for the providers of the restaurant of the said college.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In Kassouala, we also had a working session with the college's FANs to take stock of the cases of acute malnutrition detected. Thus we noted that the FAN had detected 14 cases of acute malnutrition, including 2 severe cases. Guided by one of the FANs, we made a home visit of the cases of severe acute malnutrition for confirmation. Thus, we visited Charlotte Sambieni, 18 months old, daughter of Pauline Tchansi. Severe acute malnutrition due to early weaning was revealed. Without further delay we referred the little girl to the hospital in Papan\u00e9 where she is currently being treated. In the same house, we found another case of moderate acute malnutrition. For this one, we gave nutritional advice to the mother.
