From Weeds to Organic Fertilizer

Are weeds a nuisance? Absolutely. But they can also be a valuable resource! We help farmers turn weeds into liquid organic fertilizer. This gives unwanted plants in the field a useful second purpose.

Biomineralisatie

The secret? Biomineralization, a biological process in which beneficial microorganisms turn collected weeds into liquid fertilizer. This technique fits perfectly with the agroecological farming practices our Foundation promotes: making smart use of locally available resources.

This year, we distributed five new UBM C-1000 biomineralization kits to cooperatives and local entrepreneurs. Each kit includes a biomineralization unit, a fermentation system, a drainage system, and all the necessary accessories.

The supplier also provided intensive training and a clear instruction manual.

With these five kits, we aim to introduce more farmers to biomineralization. At the same time, we are assessing how profitable the kits are.

Turning unwanted weeds into useful fertilizer: a promising step toward more sustainable agriculture in Benin!
