Gbétébou Cooperative Turns Cassava Into a Powerful Economic Driver

The Gbétébou cooperative demonstrates that cassava processing goes far beyond traditional farming. Thanks to targeted support and improved management practices, the cooperative is evolving into a successful business model that generates increasing income for local families.

During the first quarter of 2026, the cooperative achieved revenue of 512,375 FCFA and a net profit of 208,375 FCFA. These results were driven by stronger internal organisation, improved financial management, and a broader range of processed products.

While the cooperative previously faced limitations due to weak commercial structuring, it is now operating more efficiently and significantly improving its profitability. This progress clearly highlights the importance of professional entrepreneurship in driving sustainable economic growth.

Investing in Skills and Financial Management

A key factor behind this success was the financial education program organised by the Hubi and Vinciane Foundation. During an intensive three-day training session, agricultural technicians gained practical expertise in financial analysis, cost management, and strategic planning for cooperatives.

Following the training, the technicians supported cooperatives in strengthening their administrative and financial systems. Cash records, inventory management, production tracking, and revenue and expense monitoring were all further professionalised.

As a result, the cooperative now has better control over production costs, stronger sales strategies, and improved long-term profitability.

Creating More Value Through Cassava Processing

Processing cassava into higher-value products — including gari, tapioca, and animal feed cakes — also helped reduce post-harvest losses and increase profit margins. Female members of the cooperative particularly benefit from this development through additional income opportunities and greater economic independence.
