Odisee students make an impact in Benin

Twenty enthusiastic students from Ecole Supérieure d’Odisee travelled to Benin in February for an unforgettable and instructive immersion trip. They immersed themselves in daily life for two weeks and actively engaged with the local community.

With great dedication, they visited and worked in several hospitals and medical centres. In the villages of N’Dali and Ouénou, they carried out hypertension tests on 200 people, 40 of whom were at serious risk. Young children were also carefully screened for malnutrition and malaria. In addition, the students were immediately able to put their knowledge of wound care into practice with selected patients.

The Alafiarou Elementary School also received a visit. Together with the pupils and under the guidance of a nutritionist, the students prepared a nutritious meal based on rice and vegetables. A workshop on hygiene was not to be missed!

To make this trip possible, the students organize various fund-raising activities in advance. Not only to finance part of their expenses but also to support the Foundation on-site. This year, they presented a cheque for 5,000 euros to Marcienne Houenou, Director in Benin.

“This sum will be used to finance our priority project: the construction of a new maternity unit at the Boko hospital”, she gratefully explains.

In addition to this financial support, the students also brought valuable medical equipment from Belgium.

For Odisee students, this immersion trip is the perfect combination of social commitment and practical experience. They put their heart and soul into it and make a difference.
