School Gardens give children a healthy start

During the first quarter of 2026, the Hubi & Vinciane Foundation continued investing in healthy school meals. In six rural schools — three in N’Dali and three in Tchaourou — school gardens were created where children and schools grow vegetables together.

Fresh Vegetables for School Meals

The school garden program is part of the partnership between our Foundation and Benin’s National Agency for Food and Nutrition (ANAN). Together, we aim to ensure that children enjoy a healthy, balanced meal at school every day.

The gardens produce nutritious vegetables, including amaranth, tomatoes, okra, peppers, dossi, and cricrin. The cooks use the harvest directly in school meals, giving children more variety on their plates and healthier nutrition.

Learning with Hands in the Soil

The school gardens are much more than a source of food. They are also hands-on learning spaces where children discover how vegetables grow, why healthy eating matters, and how to care for the environment. At the same time, they become familiar with sustainable farming and the principles of agroecology.

Building the Future Together

The success of the project is built on close cooperation between the Foundation, ANAN, schools, teachers, cooks, and local communities. Together, they help ensure that healthy school meals continue to make a long-term impact.

In this way, the school becomes much more than a place to learn. It becomes a place where children grow, dream, and build a healthier future.
