New Gardens, New Opportunities

Thanks to the support of the provinces of West Flanders and Flemish Brabant, our Foundation has established three new community gardens in Gbetebou, Gangakou, and Ban-Hounkpo. This brings the total number of gardens in our project villages to sixteen. Each garden is equipped with a solar-powered water pump, and demand for this type of initiative continues to grow.

The impact is immediate.

Local farming cooperatives are more motivated, and activity on the sites is increasing. These community gardens not only provide fresh fruits and vegetables but also offer real opportunities for women (who make up 80% of participants) and young people to boost their income and improve their food security.

Our agricultural experts provide hands-on support through practical training in the use of biopesticides and more efficient cultivation techniques.

Challenges remain, however.

Water is not always available—especially on cloudy days—and crops are vulnerable to damage from roaming animals due to the lack of fencing.

We firmly believe in this model. By expanding it to more villages, we aim to continue driving positive change and provide more people with a path toward a sustainable future.
